The new models, production of which will continue at Honda¢s Atessa facility in Italy, boast several new features:
• New engine, known as eSP (enhanced Smart Power), incorporating a number of low friction technologies and Idling Stop, and offering outstanding fuel economy: 2.1 l/100 km (134 mpg Imperial) for 125cc and 2.28 l/100 km (129 mpg Imperial) for 150cc (WMTC mode figures).
• The first Honda scooters to feature 16-inch wheels, a flat floor and under seat storage for a full-face helmet.
• All-new design and new, lighter frame.
• Side stand offered as standard.
• ABS added as an option.
The SH family began life in 1984 with the SH50. In its various incarnations - SH50, SH75, SH80, SH100, SH125, SH150 and SH300 - it has enjoyed great popularity ever since; in 2011, the SH125i and SH150i sold over 23,000 units between them across Europe.
Comments: The PCX featured engine is a great advantage over any rival, at least for the time being.
It¢s the first time that the ABS is provided on such a small engine capacity scooter, even as an optional. This is absolutely justified since scooters like these are used where the ABS is most necessary: on town-downtown rides.
About a year ago, the Yamaha Xenter was introduced, featuring a new design approach to the scooter category. Judging by the photos, which is not the safest thing to do, someone would expect that because of the extensive changes performed, the conservative appearance of the SH scooters would be changed even more.
At the press release, the manufacturer says that these are the first Honda scooters to feature 16-inch wheels, a flat floor and under seat storage for a full-face helmet. Are there more to follow, even with greater engine capacity?
