According to the OEM plans, the two electric powered bikes PES1 and PED1 will be available to the market by 2016. This is a very interesting move since this is the first from the Japanese four manufacturers to offer electrics at the line-up. These two specific bikes provide the advantage of a very low weight as well as swappable battery packs which benefits heavier use.

Yamaha will unveil the PES1, PED1, EVINO and EKIDS electric concepts at the Tokyo motor show

The following concepts will be introduced at the Tokyo motor show.


Concerning the PES1 and PED1 model names, their letters stand for Passion, Electric, Street or Dirt. Their electric motors are powered by Lithium-ion batteries which are fitted in a monocoque frame type. 





The transmission may be switched between manual and automatic. The bikes may be connected with smartphones to provide various indications. The street bike will weigh less than 100 kg (220 lbs) and the dirt bike less than 85 kg (187.4 lbs). 




The EVINO derives from the VINO scooter powered by an electric motor. It will still be suitable to young riders. The battery can be charged away from the scooter. The EVINO is equipped with regenerative braking function which means that the battery is charged during braking. It aims to short distance riding. 



The EKIDS equips the same motor with the EVINO, with a friendlier power output, being suitable to kids learning to ride. It could be based on the PW. 



The YPJ-01 Epsilon Project 01 is a bicycle equipped with a 250W motor.
