Lorenzo storms to dominant victory in San Marino GP
Jorge Lorenzo has won his second consecutive Grand Prix, winning the GP Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini at Misano on Sunday afternoon. The World Champion, who took the lead at the start, controlled the pace as championship leader Marc Marquez beat Dani Pedrosa to second position.
Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli has delivered another glorious result for Lorenzo, who has now flourished at the Adriatic venue for three years in a row. The win, which is the 49th of his career and 28th in the premier class, also confirms that the Mallorcan has won both Italian races on the calendar for a trio of successive seasons.
From second on the grid, Lorenzo shot into the lead as pole-sitter Marquez dropped to third on the opening lap. The latter would put on a spurt in the second half of the race, but by this point had fallen to fourth place due to an unforced error; Marquez recovered from his Turn 8 mistake to catch and pass both Lorenzo¢s teammate Valentino Rossi and his Repsol Honda Team colleague Pedrosa. However, as the two Honda riders engaged in a battle, Lorenzo¢s already comfortable lead only grew.
Marquez¢s championship lead is now 34 points with five races remaining, while Lorenzo has drawn level with Pedrosa for second overall.
Rossi and Monster Yamaha Tech3¢s Cal Crutchlow are the only other two riders who can mathematically still clinch the title; the Italian ended Sunday¢s race fourth, while the Englishman fell to sixth on the final lap behind LCR Honda MotoGP¢s Stefan Bradl. Alvaro Bautista was seventh for GO&FUN Honda Gresini, having claimed his maiden MotoGP™ podium at Misano in 2012, while Ducati Team¢s Andrea Dovizioso beat teammate Nicky Hayden and Ignite Pramac Racing¢s Michele Pirro to eighth spot.
The MotoGP™ World Championship continues with Round 14, the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragón, at MotorLand Aragon in north-eastern Spain on 29th September.

Marquez crushes opposition with record Misano pole
Marc Marquez has impressively collected his sixth pole position of the 2013 MotoGP™ season, beating Casey Stoner¢s Misano lap record in the process. The championship leader will start alongside Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, with teammate Dani Pedrosa coming from fourth place on the grid.
As qualifying drew to a close at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, it looked as though Marquez had beaten Lorenzo by just 24 thousandths of a second. The Repsol Honda Team man (despite having suffered an accident during the preceding fourth practice session) then delivered a crushing blow in the form of 1¢32.915, establishing the new qualifying record and sealing his second consecutive pole by over half a second. Lorenzo was comfortably second ahead of Yamaha Factory Racing partner Rossi, both now running with seamless gearbox for the first time.
In fourth spot, Honda¢s Pedrosa - on pole last year - was clearly frustrated for the duration of the day and was eight tenths of a second off the pole position time, due to rear wheel traction issue.
Cal Crutchlow delivered an inspiring lap for fifth place, having been outside of the combined top ten in practice, which meant he passed through Q1 for the first time. The Englishman will fill the middle of Row 2 ahead of Aleix Espargaro, again very much punching above his weight to qualify his Power Electronics Aspar ART machine in sixth position. Stefan Bradl starts seventh for LCR Honda MotoGP, ahead of GO&FUN Honda Gresini¢s Alvaro Bautista (who finished on the podium here last year) and Ducati Team duo Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden.
As he also did at Indianapolis in mid-August, Marc Marquez has topped every season in which he has taken part so far this weekend. Sunday¢s GP Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini, Round 13 of the season, begins at 2pm local time (GMT +2).

Marc Marquez set the pace in both practice sessions as Friday signalled the start of the GP Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini weekend at Misano. The Repsol Honda Team rider narrowly edged out teammate Dani Pedrosa, while Valentino Rossi ended the day quicker than Jorge Lorenzo as both ran the seamless transmission for the first time.
Already the championship leader heading to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Marquez started as he means to continue by locking out both sessions. The margin was narrow, though, with Pedrosa moving to within 33 thousandths at the end of the day, having previously overcome problems as his bike suffered vibrations. In third place, Rossi was ahead of Lorenzo, but Misano marks a critical race for all at Yamaha Factory Racing as it finally puts its seamless transmission system into practice.

Standout performance of the day went to Aleix Espargaro, as the Catalan rider hauled his CRT-specification ART machine into the top five for Power Electronics Aspar. This remarkable effort, only half a second off the top spot, demoted GO&FUN Honda Gresini¢s Alvaro Bautista to sixth place ahead of Ignite Pramac Racing¢s Michele Pirro and Ducati Team¢s Andrea Dovizioso.
Stefan Bradl was ninth for LCR Honda MotoGP, but suffered a Turn 6 crash during the afternoon session.
It was a tough day for Monster Yamaha Tech3, with Cal Crutchlow and Bradley Smith off the pace in both sessions. The former finished tenth, one second down on Marquez, while his teammate was 14th fastest and experienced a crash on entry to the first corner.
