6/24/2011. MotoGP Qualifying: Simoncelli gets pole position
Stoner third, Rossi 11th
Marco Simoncelli was fastest during qualifying, there was no one to challenge him. Today he was also the dominant rider. The Italian Gresini Honda rider achieved his second pole position in the motoGP category, now hoping to finish on the podium, or even win the race tomorrow. His lap time was 1:34.718, while the circuit record is 1:34.525 by Dani Pedrosa last year.
However, the news is not that Simoncelli was the fastest out there, its that Ben Spies was second, on the Yamaha, their time difference is negligible, just 0.009 seconds! Surprise? Perhaps, perhaps not. Casey Stoner will start from the third place of the grid, 0.290 seconds gap from the Italian rider. The Australian hurt his shoulder after a crash in the morning.
Jorge Lorenzo was fourth, Andrea Dovizioso fifth, sixth place for Cal Crutchlow. Another surprise is Karel Abraham¢s seventh place, he is actually the leading Ducati rider. Colin Edwards, Nicky Hayden and Randy de Puniet are the remaining top ten riders.
Valentino Rossi was 11th. The Italian was 1,846 seconds behind Simoncelli, he has not yet found the correct settings for the GP11.1.
Loris Capirossi had a crash, about 10 minutes before the end of the process, he hit his back on the ground, he remained unconscious for a while. He was carried to the track clinic, he had broken three ribs.

Comments: To win a race, a lot of work and maturity is necessary, which is something that Simoncelli has not yet proved.
Spies progresses silently and methodically, which should be expected by the American.
The wild card Abraham, continues the excellent work from Silverstone. Very good indeed!
6/25/2011. Assen MotoGP race: Win for Spies!
A significant victory for Spies and Yamaha
Ben Spies won the Assen TT race. That was the best way to celebrate Yamaha's 50 years of presence on the World Championship. This was his first (actually relaxed also) victory for the American in the MotoGP category. The Spies started from the second place of the grid. At the end of lap 1 he was 2,589 seconds ahead of the other riders. He rode very well throughout the race, at the finish he celebrated vividly 7,697 seconds in front of Casey Stoner.
The Australian Honda rider couldn¢t follow Spies. Thus he preferred to achieve some 20 certain points by finishing second. His team mate Andrea Dovizioso finished third, he slowed down his pace during the race although he was not threatened by… Valentino Rossi who finished fourth, 30,684 seconds behind Spies.
The Italian Ducati rider got a very good result in his first race on the GP11.1, despite the settings problems encountered. Rossi did a very good start from 11th place of the grid, at the end of the first lap he was fifth. Then he challenged Cal Crutchlow for the fourth place which was accomplished three laps later. Crutchlow was riding fast however the front tire of his bike got worn. He entered the pits to replace it and returned to the race (eventually finished 14th).
Nicky Hayden was fifth, Jorge Lorenzo was sixth. The race of the Spaniard turned into a disaster on lap 1 where Simoncelli crashed, his bike caused Lorenzo who was just behind, to crash also. Both were lucky though, continuing the race. Colin Edwards was seventh, Hiroshi Aoyama eighth, Simoncelli ninth, Toni Elias tenth.
